Imagine a warm desert night below the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico. The rose light of sunset has just past, and the sky has turned purple indigo, framing a limitless field of stars. The closer you look the more white lights you see. The rich colors and paint splatter field of white spots of GAC Rex Begonia 'Albuquerque Midnight Sky' reflects this moment. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Atlanta Jazz PAT |
The music does not stop. Bright red, silver and green combine to create a loud happy color combination on a traditional teardrop shaped leaf. This rex begonia is vigorous. The leaf center is pink, the outer ring of color is clean silver, and the palm shaped veins are bright green. |
| Rex Begonia Boston Cherries 'n Chocolate PAT |
Delicious ! You can taste he chocolate syrup as you see the brown field of leaf color surround the cherry pink spots on the leaves. This plant is dramatic and draws comments wherever it is used. Used in all black combinations, or with lime green foliage, the contrast stuns all who see it. |
Rex Begonia Charlotte Chiffon PPAF |
Elegance, refined lines, and flowing fabrics characterize the dazzling ballroom dresses of the old south. "Charlotte Chiffon" is a tribute to the well dressed women of that era.
Leaves blush pink over striking silver stripes. The form of the plant is full. It holds its color and presence throughout the dark winter days. The colors intensify in summer. This plant is distinctly unique from the other varieties in the Great American Cities ® line. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Chicago Fire PAT |
The fire never stopped burning in Chicago. The windy city's great history and renewed spirit shine in the moody, intense red and black color markings on these leaves. Jagged, irregular leaf margins add to the interest of this plant.
| Rex Begonia GAC Denver Lace PAT |
Whoa! Stop the stagecoach! This great begonia brings back the frontier days spirit of the 1800s in Denver. Women waltzed the streets in their Victorian best, white lace over dark dresses. GAC Begonia Denver Lace has vigorous large leaves, yet is delicate in overall appearance, thanks to an unusual crinkled leaf texture, reminiscent of taffeta, overlaid with white lace like dots, on a petticoat of maroon, pink, white and finally green concentric circles of underlying color. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Hilo Holiday PAT |
Celebrate the winter holidays island style with tropical begonias! Rich intense red leaves are framed by bright green borders. Festive, happy plants, these make great accents anywhere they are used. These plants look great in December, widening our arsenal options for color sales against Poinsettias. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Houston Fiesta PAT |
Pass the chilies and salsa! This plant says "Party Time!" The medium sized leaves grow thick and fill the pots with a complex confusion of color. Bright red, bright pink, bright green and bright silver markings greet the eye. The leaves grow every direction, like so many hands waving in the air to the beat of a merenge dance. Ole! |
| Rex Begonia GAC Maui Mist PAT |
Pink, a good pink is largely absent from the Rex Begonia group. This guava pink is a good start. Anyone who knows the acid, pungent sweet fragrance of fallen guava fruit, or who enjoys the rich sweet taste of guava nectar, will be transported back to an Oahu beach when they see GAC Rex Begonia 'Maui Mist.' Great vigor, it makes especially nice hanging baskets with its long leaf petioles, and long pointed leaves. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Miami Storm PAT |
Warning! Storms are brewing. Warning horns are blaring, and red lights are flashing. GAC Rex Begonia 'Miami Storm' shouts its presence with metallic red color on medium sized leaves. Its "look at me" color out weighs its medium stature, making it a focal point of any mixed color bowl it is placed in. The silver underlying leaf color intensifies the red leaf color, and the small black leaf center oak leaf design. Stops people every time. |

| Rex Begonia Mini Portland Picotee Pink PPAF |
Wow - a double pink mini! A Dark pink line of color frames the bright silver leaves. The center of each leaf is vibrant pink as well! new leaves emerge with an intense pink color. Bands of silver make the deep pink center and undulating pink leaf margin more vibrant. Miniature, fast growing, and dense, Mini Portland Picotee Pink is a colorful addition to our mini Rex Begonia series. The photo was taken during the coldest, darkest days of winter, proving its vigor and lack of winter dormancy. Say goodbye to the winter blues. The next generation of Rex Begonias has arrived. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Mini Tuscaloosa Crepe |
Festive and busy, Tuscaloosa CrepePPAF derives its name from the high number of folds and curls in its leaves that reflect light a hundred different directions.
Imagine humid nights, candles and lanterns swaying, southern women dressed in their finest crushed red crepe, as they glide from horse drawn carriages onto wide white limestone steps. A doorman bows. The party begins.
This variety is vigorous, quickly filling a 4" pot, even in winter. |
| Rex Begonia GAC New York Swirl |
Cars rushing, women's skirts twirling, cabbies screaming, and stock brokers running, NYC is a city in constant motion. GAC Rex 'New York Swirl' reflects this activity, movement, and organization. A crisp dark maroon/black circle of fingers marks the center of the snail-curled silver and pink leaves. The undulating leaf margin is darker than the silver field, and has irregular teeth at the edge. Exquisite. Demands attention. Wants to be looked at. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Omaha Beefsteak |
Only the biggest and best will do? They try GAC 'Omaha Beefsteak.' Like the name implies, this is a "quality cut," with prime grade huge leaves, deep blood red in color, which frames a dark black center. Big, big, big. |
| Rex Begonia GAC Orlando Lime |
Welcome our living version of Key Lime Pie splattered with whipped cream. Florida brings us more than amusement parks. The Orlando area is in the citrus belt. Where do you think they get all those limes for Key Lime Pies? Bright lime green leaves with coalescing white dots make this plant glow in shady places. It is a wonderful accent Rex Begonia, or a plant to 'lighten' the visual weight of a combination planter. Leaves are medium large. |
| Rex Begonia GAC San Diego Sunset |
Romantic evenings on the beach, friends, walking through low waves as the sun sets, watching the low coastal clouds change from pink, red and finally black. GAC 'San Diego Sunset' embodies all this spirit. Every leaf is a reminder of the delicate transition between evening and night. A ring of bright green contrasts and frames the multicolored leaves. |
Tall straws, deep cold soda drinks, frothy foam on top, delight our eyes and refresh us in the heat of summer. GAC Rex Begonia 'Pink Parfait' is refreshment for the eyes, reminding us of the best of the pleasures of summer in the South.
Bearing topknot "foam" of pink flowers that rise several inches on stem "straws" above the foliage canopy, 'Savannah Pink Parfait' is absolutely unique.
It is a Rex Begonia that blooms and blooms heavily. Leaf habit is different as well. Decidedly feminine in color and appearance, the silver and bright clear pink centers all point upward.
Bloom is especially concentrated the end of November through December. This unique quality makes 'Savannah Pink Parfait' special: the first commercially available Rex Begonia that can be grown as a flowering plant - with color coordinated foliage to match! |
| Rex Begonia GAC Seattle Twist |
Cool moist Seattle is an ideal place for most Begonias. 'Seattle Twist' brings this vigorous look to the rest of us. One of the most vigorous of the GAC series, this plant is a corkscrew type, with a pronounced twist at the center of most leaves. The colors are muted and pleasing, soft pink, silver, and green, bright enough to bring sunshine to a cloudy rainy day without upstaging every other plant in the planter, garden or window grouping. |
| Begonia Rex GAC Tucson Bonfire |
Hot days, cold nights send Arizona cowboys to the fire ring to enjoy dinner, coffee and good company. GAC Rex 'Tucson Bonfire' incorporates the red-hot flames, the silver of the desert sands and the vigor of the independent Westerners who have pioneered the Southwest. The silver streaking in the leaves intensifies the effect of the red background. |
